Cody Porter, PhD
Assistant Professor of Biology
I received my Bachelor's in Zoology from Michigan State University. As an undergraduate, I became obsessed with the evolutionary ecology of crossbills after seeing a flock of white-winged crossbills during a winter irruption year. That led me to the University of Wyoming, where I did my PhD research with Craig Benkman on the ecology of speciation in red crossbills. During my postdoctoral research with Eric Riddell at Iowa State University, I worked on a number of questions about the evolutionary and ecological physiology of birds using a combination of field studies, museum specimens, and biophysical modeling. At Hope College, I am excited to explore new questions about the evolutionary ecology of crossbills and begin work on the winter ecophysiology of small songbirds.
